With Nationals being in Lexington, Kentucky, we planned to finally have mild racing conditions for JO’s. We couldn’t have been more wrong! Heavy storms the night before lingered into competition day brining cold, high winds and MUD like we’ve never experianced. The day was all about placement and not Time as athletes stuggled to stay on two feet. Lizzy impressed us with her mental toughness and focus letting her talent and hard work shine with an increadible 10th place finish!!

Caitlin and her teammates will never forget the insanely challenging racing conditions experienced in Lexington, Kentucky. Hurican level winds and sidways rain delayed the race and created a quagmire that challenged the most rugged athlete. On a day when it took courage just to line up on the starting line Caitlin leaned on her competitive spirt to dig deep and earn an All-American title with a 22nd place finish.

We expected and prepared for cold temptures but no one could have anticapated the bitter winds and frigid tempatures Madison, Wisconsin had in store for the Junior Olympics 2019. Coaches honestly didn’t know how our Southern-blooded athletes would handle the day and wondered what we were doing bringing our team to such a brutal climit. Morgan didn’t let the 10 F. degree wind-chill slow her down, and ended up throwing down an exciting 7th place finish!

Madison, Wisconsin’s brutally fridged wind and tempatures were by far more than we have ever asked of our athletes. While much of the field’s goals where reduced to surving and getting back to the warm tents, Hunter Bates thrived in the elements. His competitive spirit put his talent and hard work on display for an insainly hard day of racing. This All-American title is just the begining of Hunters racing career.

At 4,500 feet, there’s not a lot of oxygen. Add snow, ice, mud, cold temperatures and a very competitive field, and you have one of the toughests races available. Running very strong all year, coming to Reno would be the ultimate test of Justine’s athletic drive. Her mental focus and physical stamina was evident throughout the race and all the way to a very strong finish.

Nate ran later in the day when the field was well trodden and sloppy. He had seen many athletes get hammered by the high altitude and burned out on the first hill. Nate took that in, and ran a very smart race. Starting out about 50 places back after the first 1/2 mile, Nate slowly and steadily made his way to the front. In the end, he was over 10 seconds ahead of his next competitor; finishing strong at 13:53 on a very tough course.

The Junior Olympic Regional Championship meet in Greensboro this weekend provided 3 hot days of great performances against strong competition! We had 16 athletes travel to Aggie Stadium who competed like champions and came home with 16 medals and qualified in 8 races for nationals! It was hot and competitive out there on the track but our athletes ran smart and confident. It was so fun to watch them run strategic races; finishing strong, passing their competition all the way to the finish line. That made for some fun and exciting racing to watch!
